Capita Symonds is one of the UK’s largest and most diverse engineering and infrastructure consulting companies. Their designers, engineers, managers, planners and surveyors are leading consultants in the following engineering fields; Civil, Structural, Environmental, Transport and Geotechnical, to name a few.
EMS has worked with Capita Symonds (formally Travers Morgan) for well over fifteen years. Originally, we supplied drawing office and general draughting support on an ad-hoc basis. More recently we extended a broad range of services and since the summer of 1998, we have successfully managed a comprehensive offsite Print Room facility.
Scope of Work
EMS manages a complete offsite Print Room facility; we operate three collections and deliveries per day, thus allowing most jobs to be returned on a same day basis. The highest degree of confidence is placed on our understanding and level of service, this means it is rarely necessary for lengthy instructions or deadlines to be confirmed by our customer – they know the task will be completed correctly and on time.
Included within the Print Room facility; for either full colour or monochrome are:
- volume A4/A3 document copying
- printing and scanning
- large format plan plotting
- copying and scanning
- poster printing
- report compilation
- binding and finishing
- encapsulation
- mounting and sealing onto board
EMS supply several departments with their display and presentation material, working generally with files produced in-house we produce high-resolution large format colour display posters and graphic panels. These are finished either by mounting and sealing to board or simply encapsulated under our Design Support service.
In addition to undertaking CAD draughting, plotting and extensive Document Management projects within our offices, EMS has supplied technical CAD and GIS staff to work in Capita Symonds offices. Experienced EMS staff have assisted on many different projects including; digital terrain mapping, geo-referencing aerial photos and numerous geo-environmental land use projects.
By utilising our Print Room facility, Capita Symonds has taken full advantage of our technical experience and knowledge within the field of litho printing. We have directly applied this for the production of the Environment Statement and Traffic Assessment reports for the 2012 London Olympic bid, these were large and complex printing jobs that had been created using several different technical software applications. We produced full colour glossy brochures; leaflets and handouts, which were combined with maps, drawings, plans, tables, charts and text all collated to form a final presentation package.
Summary
We believe the benefits to Capita Symonds by outsourcing their Print Room facility to EMS are many. Obviously, cost savings on staff, floor space, material and equipment, to the less obvious, allowing our customers to concentrate on their core business working with the knowledge that some of the final and often most important functions are being undertaken reliably and professionally.
